The Pharmacy Compliance Specialist will need to execute all activities necessary for the Specialty Pharmacy to comply with all state regulations, laws, guidelines, and other requirements mandated by regulators such as State Boards of Pharmacy, DEA, FDA, URAC, and others. The Pharmacy Compliance Specialist will not be responsible for operational activities. The Pharmacy Compliance Specialist will report to the System Compliance Operations Officer.

Responsibilities

  • 1. This position is responsible for the review, promotion, and evaluation of compliance and privacy issues related to Specialty Pharmacy, and works to assure that management and employees achieve consistently high levels of compliance with all Federal and State, (e.g., Board of Pharmacy applicable laws, regulations, guidelines and other standards) efforts. State Board of Pharmacy newsletters will be monitored and the Compliance Specialist will inform the business team of any compliance issues in writing.
    • 1.1 This position is responsible for the review, promotion, and evaluation of compliance issues related to Specialty Pharmacy, and works to assure that management and employees achieve consistently high levels of compliance with all Federal and State, (e.g. Board of Pharmacy applicable laws, regulations, guidelines and other standards) efforts. State Board of Pharmacy newsletters will be monitored and the Compliance Specialist will inform the business team of any compliance issues in writing.
  • 2. Works to develop strong relationships across the System with key departments. Participates in outside healthcare compliance organizations to stay abreast of corporate compliance developments and bestpractices within the industry. Actively participates in departmental and team meetings. Strives to continually improve the compliance program. Develops personal and departmental goals and objectives consistent with those of the Yale New Haven Health System in conjunction with the Chief Compliance and PrivacyOfficer for the Specialty Pharmacy. Coordinates with legal counsel and management to maintain appropriate privacy and confidentiality, related to attorney client privileged information.
  • 3. Under the direction of the Vice President, Chief Compliance + Privacy Officer and the System Privacy Compliance Officer, the Pharmacy Compliance Specialist will work with the privacy team to analyze each privacy incident to determine if a breach of code of conduct, conflict of interest, or failure to comply with any state or federal regulatory requirement should be reported to an external governing authority and implementing corrective action and remediation to resolve the breach. Estimated response to affected parties will be within thirty (30) days; but no longer than sixty (60) days.
  • 4. The Pharmacy Compliance Specialist is responsible for developing, monitoring, auditing, managing, and evaluating that pharmacy regulatory and compliance functions for Yale New Haven Health System to comply with government regulatory, accreditation standards, including policy, process and procedure development and implementation as it related to compliance matters. The Compliance Specialist is the central point-of-contact for all regulatory agencies/issues, ensuring organizational compliance with DEA, DOE, FDA, pharmacy-related joint commission and Department of Health standards. Work also includes:
    • 4.1 Review of State and Federal regulations and the communication and implementation of hospital regulatory requirements in the pharmacy in policy and practice
  • 5. The Pharmacy Compliance Specialty shall be responsible to collaborate with Specialty Pharmacy Clinical Leadership to implement at least two quality improvement plans (QIPs) annually that address opportunities for error reduction and/or performance improvement. At least one of the selected QIPs must address consumer safety for the population served. If the QIP is clinical in nature, the Compliance Specialist shall include the Clinical Coordinator, Specialty Pharmacy inclusion of clinical quality measures and clinical aspects of performance.

Qualifications

EDUCATION

 

Bachelor of Science degree in a related science field. Pharmacy Technician or Licensed Pharmacist desired.

 

EXPERIENCE

 

Five to seven years of related work experience in a pharmacy setting that would demonstrate attainment of the requisite job knowledge/abilities is required. Specialized knowledge of compliance risks related to Specialty Pharmacy and pharmacy operations is required. Retail pharmacy experience preferred.

 

LICENSURE

 

1. Compliance or Privacy Compliance experience preferred with certification or Healthcare Compliance certification (CHC) obtained in 1 year. 2. Compliance professional with specialty pharmacy or pharmacy experience desired.

 

SPECIAL SKILLS

 

This position required knowledge of the standards and practices relating to pharmacy practice and hazardous material and expertise with respect to knowledge of pharmacy compliance issues, safety regulations, patient management, and regulatory requirements (URAC, JCAHO, 340B, DOE, DEA, FDA, USP, etc.).
